Taste of India as part of Real Food Festival

The weather may have been interchangeable but the people's love for our spiced-chocolate tarts was just as constant as last weekend.  The rich dark chocolate remained the most popular with subtle tones of chai infused into the smooth chocolate filling.  The white chocolate was as ever, the surprise of the stand with people instantly converted to buying one after just a small taster.

Passers-by were comforted with a cup of a freshly-brewed chai and a warm chocolate naan to get them through the cold front and were a hit with the little ones due to the low sugar content.

The most encouraging part was people's excitement about Pistachio Rose and the fact that it was different to anything that's out there.  They loved the concept, the taste and were recommending other markets they'd like to see us as at.

We'd like to thank @RealFoodFest & @Southbanlondon for letting us be a part of this great market.  We'd also love to thank @stylistmagazine for their re-tweet about our chocolate naan - much tweeted about this weekend!

We'll be back in 2 weeks time on 28th at Brixon's @MakeGrowSell where we'll be entering our products into the Great Brixton Bake off Competition so please support us!

Taste of India Discoveries

We wanted to share our discoveries from the Taste of India Food market because we think they’re amazing.  Unfortunately we were too busy devouring the food to take any pictures, which is a big mistake on our part but hope to add some at a later date on our second round of tasting!

The BEST home-cooked food by the family behind RollingRoti – authentic, full-flavoured melt-in-the-mouth curries.  Tender lamb curry in a rich spiced sauce, chilli paneer with sweet sticky peppers, light fluffy rice & freshly cooked chapattis.  Oh, and soft, slightly sweet dhokla with mint yoghurt & roasted coconut.  Look out for them at the next food festival & make sure you get in line!  info@rollingroti.co.uk

Fresh, authentic chaat from Horn OK Please  @Horn_Please.  This lovely duo prepare everything themselves from their amazing date & tamarind chutney that they peel, de-seed & pulp by hand to their chickpea masala which is poured all over their crispy samosas.  They also make beautifully light bhel puri which is clean tasting & had fresh pomegranate sprinkled over it.  Check them out at Brick Lane market on Sundays.

Our final fantastic find was Community Kitchen Project @CommunityKitch1 run by a small team of passionate people looking to create opportunities whilst delivering a successful business based upon freshly prepared, delicious food.  Soft, juice lamb kofta served in a giant chapatti with fresh salad & coriander is the perfect lunch time fill if you want something a bit lighter.  Homemade chilli sauce optional J  They also have marinated chicken & chickpea masala so make sure you include them in your tasting line up at their next event.

Festival of Chocolate

Hello there,

Sorry for the long pause between the last post & now...we have been up to our eyes in chocolate (there are certainly worse places to be).  The last few weeks have been spent putting the finishing touches on the products in preparation for The Chocolate Festival in Bristol which took place Easter weekend.

It was our first food festival and we were overwhelmed with the public response.  We ran tastings and really interacted with the crowd who genuinely seemed excited about our new & innovative products, especially our chocolate spiced tarts.  It's a natural reaction for most people to be wary of new flavour combinations, especially when you mention the words white chocolate, fennel seed, aniseed & menthol in the same sentence!  That was the fun part though because we knew that we had the created the perfect balance of flavours which was proven with unanimous smiles, even from the anti-white chocolate crusaders.
The dark chocolate infused with our own chai blend was a big hit amongst the true chocoholics who loved the smooth, rich flavour of the Grenada blend with the spices.

Our chilli & almond coconut macaroons were also a big hit.  A drizzle of dark chocolate melting on your tongue as you the soft coconut caresses your mouth and just when you think it's over, a tickle of Kashmiri chilli powder warms your throat.  Eyes widen as the taster realises what is happening and they pause, as if to fully embrace the experience.  A smile takes over and an accepting look comes my way before they dive back into the bag for another.

The biggest talking point was, without a doubt, our chocolate naans.  Chocolate Naan?  (It was very hard not to think of Peter Kay every time this question was asked & recite the Garlic Bread? script)  Yes you did hear right and they were warm from the oven.  Whether you like your chocolate dark & bitter or sweet & nutty, there was a naan for everyone!

We also discovered some new delicious products, our favour of which were the fair & square cherry brownies - let them melt in your mouth while feeling good about where they've come from.  @fairbrownies.  The second was a chocolate fortified wine which was described as a chocolate port & liquid black-forest gateaux....hello, you had me at chocolate port! @lovetasting.

A fantastic weekend & a great learning.  Cant wait to do it all again this weekend at Taste of India food market at the Southbank centre.  We'll be there Fri-sun from midday until 8pm (6pm Sunday) - check our upcoming events page for more details - www.pistachiorose.co.uk.

We'd love to see you there!
